A cargo ship of Panamanian registry and a cargo ship of Korean registry bumped against each other at sea about 13 kilometers east from Izu-oshima located in Shizuoka at 2:15 a.m. on 10.
Third Regional Maritime Safety Headquarters (Yokohama city) speculates that the Korean cargo ship sank because they can’t be in contact, and they put 5 patrol boats and 3 plains in action, and are investigating.
According to the Third Regional Maritime Safety Headquarters, the crewmembers of Korean ship who are missing are 7 Koreans and 9 Indonesians. The Korean ship left Kashima port, Ibaraki in the afternoon on 9, and was on the way for carrying Steel Coils to Korea.
Panamanian ship was carrying cars from Toyohashi port, Aichi to Yokohama.
Although, a part of the bow was sunk because of the bump, the Panamanian ship could sail its own, and no crewmembers got injury.
It was raining on the marine area at that time, and the visibility was bad.
