A Japanese man became the fourth tourist to drown in Guam this year.
According to rescue personnel, the man, whos name has yet to be released, was pronounced dead after being pulled from the waters off Dungca's Beach situated behind the Onward Beach Resort in Tamuning yesterday morning.
Medics responded when a possible drowning behind the hotel was reported at 10:58, stated Firefighter Phyllis Blas, spokesperson for the Guam Fire Department.
Although resuscitation attempts were made en-route to the hospital, the man was officially pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Guam Memorial Hospital.
Police stated that the man was a guest at the Onward Beach Resort.
Spokesperson for the Guam Police Department, Allan Guzman, reported that the deceased was swimming with his nephew when the incident occurred.
When the nephew went to check on his uncle, he found the man floating unconscious in the water.
At first the nephew thought it was a joke, but called for help when he saw that his uncle remained unresponsive.
According to the autopsy perfomed by the medical examiner yesterday, the cause of death was confirmed to be drowning.
