On October 8th at 8:55AM, an earthquake of magnitude 7.6 hit northern Pakistan and the country side of Kashmir. That same day, the Chief of Pakistan expressed his concern regarding the large amount of victims.
A Japanese man living in Islamabad and his son were among the victims.
The epicentre was approximately 90km north of Islamabad near the Indo-Pakistani border around Muzafarabaad.
According to the American Geological Survey, the epicentre was approximately 10km in depth.
In Kashmir as well as in Afghanistan, many homes were destroyed, with a large number of victims expected in those locations as well.
Based on information from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the man was a member of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and had been dispatched to Pakistan with his son and wife.
Although he and his son were killed, the wife survived yet experienced injuries.
According to the ministry, 90% of the Japanese staying in the area is safe.
The man and his son were in their upper class apartment in west Islamabad when the building collapsed.
